Occupational Health : Night Worker Medicals

The Working Time Directive requires that health assessments are offered to night shift workers.

The purpose of the assessment is to make sure those employees who are required to work nights:

  • are able to adapt to night work and are not made ill as a consequence
  • do not have an existing medical condition that may not be compatible with night work

A baseline assessment will be carried out which will include the completion of a questionnaire. A further questionnaire will be issued at three months and again at twelve months. There after assessment will only be carried out if the employee requests it because of a new or worsening medical condition.
